Offshore wind has now reached an industrial scale, such that the principle historical challenges are firmly overcome: High quality, reliable assets are consistently delivered on budget and time; and cost has dramatically reduced. Panelists will examine the sustainability of high seabed and low tariff auction prices; and whether this is partly down to a bubble that is storing up future headaches. Additionally, our discussion will focus on lessons learned from projects across Europe, Asia, and North America that provide valuable insights for future commercial success: Namely the re-emergence of strategic partnership given the scale and risks in development; as well as power route to market in a low or post subsidy environment, to manage merchant power price exposure. We also will reflect on whether offshore wind is proving to be the ideal entrée for the oil and gas industry to participate in the renewables market by leveraging its historical offshore expertise.
