In May of 2020, The United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released two final rules, focusing on implementing the interoperability and patient access provisions of the 21st Century Cures Act (2015). The two rules establish new policies and standards for secure data exchange between payers, providers and patients while promoting innovation through increased choice for consumers.
