In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the federal government has loosened regulatory restrictions and offered more generous reimbursement rates for virtual care.  The goal is to help healthcare organizations accommodate an ever-increasing volume of patients.

The benefits of interacting with patients via virtual care and digital patient access technologies in the current climate include:

  • Prescreening individuals with potential exposure to COVID-19, as well as those with existing chronic conditions, for risk factors and symptoms
  • Allowing infected or exposed physicians to provide patient care while they self-quarantine at home
  • Utilizing the services of elderly or retired physicians without increasing their risk of exposure
  • Managing lower-acuity COVID-19 cases outside of the hospital setting
